Some symptoms of not knowing yourself well (superficial self understanding):

  • Lack of clear life goals
  • Unsatisfying or troubled relationships
  • Recurring work dissatisfaction
  • Lack of success (as you define success)
  • Too much disorganization, “scatteredness,” or chaos in your life
  • Too much organization or rules in your life – too rigid a daily, weekly, yearly schedule – too much sameness & predictability
  • General unhappiness
  • Co-dependence – easily distracted from yourself and your wants, needs, desires, priorities, by other people
  • Feelings or fears of being phony
  • Not well connected to or integrated with your body, mind and your emotions
  • Lack of self-motivation (as contrasted with external or compulsory motivation)
