healthy coaching is not therapy

"I didn’t even know I wasn’t happy until I started coaching with Tom Huntington.  I hired him because I was struggling in my computer consulting business – working too many hours and not making that much money.

Through coaching I soon came to realize that my life was ruled by “shoulds”, obligations, and rigid, mentalized rules, with very little attention to (or even awareness of) what I wanted or didn’t want.  I now work fewer hours and make more money, but I’m most grateful to Tom’s coaching for helping me figure out how to be happy."

When you're happy, you are:

  • Satisfied with yourself & your world
  • Pleased with what is happening or has happened
  • Content with "what is"
  • Enjoying the present

When you're not happy, you are:

  • Dissatisfied with what's going on
  • Discontent with yourself and/or your environment
  • Critical about what happened or is happening
  • Yearning for the "good ol' days"
  • Impatient for a fantasized future

Being happy in the sense of accepting "what is," is a symptom of a healthy, balanced life.

If you're not happy

  • In your work life
  • In your family life
  • In your love life
  • In your financial life
  • In your physical health
  • In your emotional health
  • In your free time

Then, that's a symptom that you're out of balance in that area of your life.

Healthy coaching can help you find the keys to being happy in all areas of your life.

  • Happy = Serenity [1]
  • Happy = Acceptance
  • Happy = Gratitude
  • Happy = Enjoying
  • Happy = Contentment
  • Happy = Being in the "flow" of life [2]
  • Happy = Being at peace
  • Happy = Being in the present
  • Happy = Excited about "what's going on"

[1] "Serenity" in the sense of the Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change."

[2] "Flow" in the sense of the book of that name, "Flow; The Psychology of Optimal Experience" by Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi
